It spreads quickly
One thing that sets the delta variant apart from other coronavirus strains is how quickly it spreads. The delta variant appears to be around twice as transmissible as the original strains.
In just a few months, the delta variant went from being nonexistent in the U.S. to now making up the vast majority (about 83 percent) of new COVID-19 cases, according to data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
Delta may cause different symptoms
Cold-like symptoms, including headache, runny nose, and a sore throat, now top the list of most common symptoms among those who’ve contracted the delta variant. More traditional COVID-19 symptoms — loss of smell, shortness of breath, fever, and persistent cough — have become less common. The staff at Crimson Village are watchful of these new symptoms, whether among current residents or visitors, to ensure proper precautions are taken in the event of exposure.
COVID vaccines provide strong protection against delta
Vaccinated people are eight times less likely to get sick and 25 times less likely to end up in the hospital compared with unvaccinated people. Despite this latest mutation, COVID is still no match for the authorized vaccines, which experts say provide a high level of protection from severe illness from delta and other variants circulating in the U.S. So far, less than 1 percent of fully vaccinated individuals have been hospitalized or have died from COVID-19, according to the CDC. Crimson Village continues to fight against covid-19 and the hardships it brings families, especially the senior community.
